National Corduroy Appreciation Day is Coming!

What is this mess?  It's a freshly washed batch of corduroy shirts and pants, eagerly waiting to "show their wales" in a quilt I'll make for National Corduroy Appreciation Day, 11/11/11.

Would you like to make a corduroy quilt by 11/11/11?

Here are some inspirations from the Gee's Bend quilt makers, recently shown in Sisters, Oregon.

Below are some "prints of wales" that I've been collecting for the occasion.

This is a wide wale treasure from Goodwill.   Looks kind of 1970's.  I love that era.

Then there's this beauty, a very soft pin wale.  Maybe I'll have to make a jumper to wear on the day.

Let me know if you'd like to make a corduroy quilt--or a quilt with corduroy in it--for 11/11/11Or maybe you already have one.   If there's enough interest, and I can figure out how, I'll make a blog or a flickr group about our quilts!  For more information on National Corduroy Appreciation Day, visit the CorduroyAppreciation Club.

Yes!! I have been wanting to make a copy of a corduroy quilt my grandmother made me. I treasure hers and use it as a wall hanging, but I'd like one to snuggle in also. She made it in the late 60's/early 70's...but it has a very modern look to it!

Wow, I haven't thought of corduroy in years. I love the Gee's Bend's quilts that are in corduroy. They look so soft and cozy. You're tempting me! That would be a great quilt. Maybe I need to visit Goodwill!

This will be fun. I needed to make a goodwill run anyway. Count me in.

you know I'm completely up for it!!! loved the glow of the corduroy in those gees bendies quilts. I'm not sticking to cords ONLY though - that fuschia velveteen is going in! (hint hint hint re add some other fabrics!!!). unsurprisingly I have not found a speck of corduroy here at thrift shops, not even a heavy kind I wouldn't want to use.

I love corduroy, it's so tactile. But I don't have a lick of it in my house, and I'll be keeping it that way. I'll follow along and cheer you through this project!

I love that you KNWO when National corduroy day is! I have some but not enough for a quilt... I often use it for backings... ;-)

Not much corduroy in my house. I would have to do an op shop hunt to find any of that fabric these days. Good luck with your creation.

Sounds fun LeeAnn...probably won't sew in on this one, but will look forward to seeing what y'all come up with! :)

I got rid of my corduroy when I moved to the South but I still have an unfinished top I got at a thrift store. I can unearth it & finish it up to join in the fun. (Hmmmm, maybe the cowboy flannel on the back & tied, maybe over-tied.)

I've been collecting corduroy here and there. Just picked up some bright pink and deep aqua. Yummm! Not sure if I can make the deadline or not but I'll keep it in mind!

What a waling good time. I have a big stash of corduroy scraps that I've been saving for 30 some years. Now I know why I've been saving them. Alas, I don't know that I will be able to complete my quilt by 111111. If anyone needs any scraps, just let me know. Who knew that there was actually a National Corduroy Club. I am so impressed, Nifty

I don't know if i can pull it off by 11/11/11 but I do have corduroy! let's see I'm 53, wonder how old my stash really is. frightening really to think about it! I'm with mary guessing 30+ years! I used some rust cord. last year to make some stuffed pumpkins, they turned out so cute. I guess this is the year for a quilt! though I'm wondering if my colors will be as striking as the bees quilts. i'll be lurking in the sidelines for sure just to see what everyone comes up with, but i really think I'm going to try and participate. janita
